True to it's name, "Spontaneous Construction" was designed on the fly and pieced in one afternoon from hand-dyed cotton fabric. I was studying with Elizabeth Barton at the Arrowmont School in Gatlinburg, TN last October. We were supposed to be working on designs that we had done earlier in the week. I was so taken with the results of my gradation experiment that I just started tearing up fabric and juxtaposing the pieces. The top was completed that afternoon. It took me the rest of the year and several false starts to get it quilted. Machine pieced, hand-dyed cotton, fleece batting, hand quilted .
